Direct Entry Inspectors

Please note the application window for this process has now closed.

Become an Inspector with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and you'll be one of the select few who can transform both our Service and London itself.

We're offering a direct entry programme for Inspector positions here at the Met, which means that you don't need to be a police officer to apply. We need our Service to reflect and represent the people of London so you'll need to be a role model - an exceptional leader with recognisable integrity.

The scope of the role, the influence you'll wield, and the number of lives you'll touch will be unlike anything you've experienced before. You'll be driving change across the largest police service in Europe and making decisions that could change lives for thousands of people every day.

The aim of the Direct Entry Programme is to:

  • Identify talented individuals who will bring new perspectives and diverse backgrounds to support the continuous development of policing, and impact on the management and culture of the service.
  • Support individuals’ development to perform effectively at either the role of inspector.
  • Support individuals’ continuing development to reach at least the level of superintendent or chief officer ranks during their careers.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Frontline Policing Mark Simmons

"The Direct Entry scheme allows us to attract a more varied workforce with a different mix of backgrounds, skills, experiences and aspirations who may not previously have considered a career in Policing. These individuals immerse themselves in the world of policing through an extensive and intensive training programme over 18 months. Once they take up their postings they are immediately making an impact on Policing, they become decision makers, leaders and they begin to develop expertise. The Met is a dynamic organisation reflecting the dynamic city that is London. We offer opportunities and experiences to develop as individuals, to challenge your own abilities and to learn something new every day. Are you ready for the challenge?"

Could you be a leader for London?

To find out more about the role of an Inspector, the Met, and the recruitment process, the College of Policing will be hosting a ‘Meet the Police’ event on the evening of the 7th February in London.

Further details of this event are being advertised on the College of Policing Lead Beyond site.
