Metropolitan Police - Working together for a safer London

Command & Control Users Services Group

Command and Control Users Services provide the user interface for the technologies that support the Met's response policing activity. This interface covers the systems that enable communication, call-handling, resource management and deployment, data collection and processing as well as providing user support.

Command and Control Users Services has four key areas of activity:

  • Supplying operational expertise to technical colleagues and suppliers.
  • Providing support for non-technical users.
  • Involving client groups like Communications Command and Control (CCC) in system development and delivery.
  • Embedding business change required by new technology into the Met way of doing business.

The Command and Control environment is a highly complex one, requiring very different systems to share information seamlessly, ensuring that a 999 call from a member of the public is dealt with efficiently, effectively and appropriately from the time of the call until the officer leaves the scene. Command and Control Users Services is structured to provide the necessary user liaison and support for the whole range of systems and activities under the following broad headings:

  • Airwave radio.
  • Call handling: management and development of the new Contact Handling System; Computer Aided Despatch.
  • Performance data: DARIS information for call handling.
  • Resource Management: MetDuties and CARM data collection, amendment, analysis and distribution.
  • Resource deployment: management and delivery of Mobile Data Terminals.
  • Business Change: embedding new ways of working into the way services are delivered.
  • Impact assessment and user impact for new Command and Control Technologies such as Automatic Personnel Locator Systems (APLS) and the Mobile Data Terminal replacement.
