Playing a lead role in the DoI’s overall strategy development, information management and technology, this group ensures that DoI strategies and activities support the Met’s corporate and policing aims. Information is the lifeblood of modern policing. The demand for instant access to information, legislative requirements and emerging technologies are driving the need for better quality information. We work to ensure that the information available to the Met is trusted, accessible and usable by all. We lead in the delivery of strategy, policy and standards for information management issues and services to the Met, our partners and the public. From working on counter-terrorist surveillance technologies to developing new electronic devices.

As part of this work, we evaluate, develop and provide technology solutions and services to support police operations, and engage with industry and the research sector to identify how emerging technologies can be applied to meet policing needs both now and in the future.

The groups remit includes:

• Information Strategy and Policy - Develop and lead upon the strategy and policy for the management of information across the Met.
• Information Compliance - Ensures compliance with the Met information policy both internally and externally; working with staff, public and partners to enable controlled access to the Met information and proactive publication in the public interest.
• Records Management - Provides storage and the Met with wide access to files, documents and publications
• Marketing, Communications and Business Change - Provides integrated communication support for DoI projects, programmes and corporate requirements. They also work collaboratively with staff in Operational Command Units and branches to improve the management of information: for example facilitating freedom of information requests locally.
• Help counter volume crime such as burglary and protect people who have been threatened with harm.
• Deliver a wide range of CCTV and audiovisual services to the Met.
• Comply with information and technical standards through streamlined IT Governance.
