Metropolitan Police - Working together for a safer London

Technology Group

From working on counter-terrorist surveillance technologies to developing new electronic devices for use in intelligence gathering, Technology Group is responsible for producing, maintaining and managing the implementation of all Met technology-related strategies. As part of this work, we evaluate, develop and provide technology solutions and services to support police operations, and engage with industry and the research sector to identify how emerging technologies can be applied to meet policing needs both now and in the future. Highly skilled and qualified experts in their fields, Technology Group staff work in partnership with a range of clients from across the Met – specialist teams and branches to HQs and Boroughs – to transfer their expertise into the operational environment.

Among many other things, we:

  • Develop and deploy technologies that are used in the operational policing environment and give the Met advantage to fight against serious crime.
  • Provide front line technical support for CCTV solutions for surveillance, protection, search and communications.
  • Help counter volume crime such as burglary and protect people who have been threatened with harm.
  • Design and build complex electronic equipment not available from commercial sources.
  • Deliver a wide range of CCTV and audiovisual services to the Met.
  • Work with industry and academic institutions to monitor, research and shape the development of new and existing technologies.
