Police Staff

Overview

The work of the MPS is not simply about the uniformed officers serving on the front line. Just as important is the 14,000-strong team of professional and support staff working behind the scenes to provide the organisational capability required to police London.

Amongst other roles, members of the professional and support staff assist visitors to police stations, deal with emergency 999 calls, prepare case papers for prosecution, provide nursing services, recruit and train police officers, facilitate the technology and systems we use, maintain our buildings and many more.

Such work should not be regarded as simply 'supporting' the more public elements of the MPS. The professional and support staff are a fully integrated and essential part the organisation, making vital contributions at every level of every department. As a police service we just wouldn't exist without them.

There are also many career development opportunities. If you are interested in working for the MPS but don't see yourself in a uniform, then a police staff role could be ideal for you - particularly if you have any specialist skills or experience to offer.

Police staff at the MPS receive an excellent standard of training and rewards and have access to an unrivalled range of professional challenges and opportunities for advancement, as well as the added benefit that they are making a difference to the community.
