Senior Forensic Scientist
Salary: £40,878 to £46,524 plus £3,379 location allowance
Location: London SE17
As the UK’s largest police service, we can offer forensic scientists a fast-paced environment and the chance to develop their skills working for the Evidence Recovery Unit on major and specialist crime scene investigations across the capital.
We’ll look to you to provide effective technical leadership in the forensic laboratory – supervising, training, mentoring and developing a team of scientists and other specialists – as well as playing a hands-on role in major crime investigations at the scene and in the laboratory. Currently a supervisor or reporting scientist in a forensic science laboratory, you must have experience of major crime scenes, in addition to being able to develop people and processes.
Ideally you’ll have a relevant science degree or equivalent, along with experience of attending crime scenes and conducting laboratory-based examinations. The ability to interpret body fluid evidence and retrieve and sample exhibits for DNA analysis and/ or the ability to enhance, recover and compare shoemarks will be essential. Experience of giving court evidence in written and oral form, and reporting on casework from major crimes is also required. You should also be able to influence new ways of working and develop junior staff.
You will also need a full driving licence.
