Employer Supported Policing
An increasing number of employers formally support their staff to become special constables under the MPS Employer Supported Policing (ESP) programme. As well as a main scheme, the programme has six distinct partnerships including ESP ShopWatch with the retail industry, ESP HospitalWatch with NHS & Primary Care Trusts and ESP BoroughBeat with local authorities.
The ESP programme is a partnership between the MPS, employers and their staff to help make London safer. Staff on the ESP scheme are given two days per fortnight paid special leave from their employer (plus paid leave for the selection process and training) to patrol in areas relevant and/or local to their day job or employing sector. But police training also means developing skills that staff can bring to their day job, so ESP benefits employers too.
If your employer supports ESP, you can apply now through our online special constable application form - select the correct scheme when asked 'Which special constable role you are applying for?'. If your employer is interested in joining the ESP partnership, use our ESP contact form to find out more or visit the ESP main website.
