Special constables are stationed in 32 boroughs across the capital, helping to make the streets safer and responding to 999 calls. Each borough has its own unique policing challenges, reflecting the area and the people who live there - simply click on the borough map link below for a description of each borough.

There are a variety of policing teams in each borough. The 32 borough-based Safer Transport Teams (STTs) are just one example and you can watch a video about STTs.

Posting Preferences

When you apply, you can nominate up to three preferences for which London borough you would like to patrol in. We will try to accommodate your preferences where space and operational needs allow however this will depend on capacity at your preferred boroughs and on our operational requirements.

If you are applying through the Employer Supported Policing (ESP) scheme the nature or location of your posting usually dictates the borough on which you are deployed. Your preferences will be taken into account, however not all ESP schemes operate on all policing boroughs.

Whilst there are many London boroughs with vacancies for new special constables, we particularly welcome applications to join the following:

• Hackney
• Hillingdon
• Lambeth
• Lewisham
• Southwark
