Met Police Volunteers

Meet our volunteers

From helping out their local Safer Neighbourhoods team to lending their skills to a specialist project, Met Police Volunteers come from all walks of life. Here are some of their stories.

Amber, Ealing Borough

I volunteer in Ealing making contact with complainants of anti-social behaviour. The task involves asking questions about the service they’ve received following their call to the police. This ranges from finding out if they were happy with the service and if their problem was dealt with satisfactorily, to their thoughts on service improvements for the future. It’s incredibly rewarding as people genuinely appreciate us taking the time to follow up in this way.

Talgeet, Hackney Borough

My role has so much variety. I update the Safer Neighbourhoods Team information boards outside all three of the borough’s police stations monthly and make sure they show details of public meetings so local people can attend and discuss their concerns. I also assist our local volunteer manager in conducting interviews with new volunteer applicants and administrative tasks. I’m sure the experience I’ve gained will help with my future employment prospects.

Saira, Brent Borough

As a Team Leader, I provide pastoral support to other Met Police Volunteers in my borough. I look after 16 volunteers, helping to ensure their time is used efficiently by rostering their sessions. I’ve been involved in a number of projects which I feel have made a real difference in my community - one of them was with the Witness Care Unit where I piloted a new project aiming to provide support to young victims of, and witnesses to, crimes.

Laura, Richmond-upon-Thames Borough

I became a Met Police Volunteer after being made redundant as a journalist. It’s proved to be the ultimate pick-me-up. As well as making lots of new friends and doing something intellectually stimulating, I’ve found my calling. I volunteer in the borough’s media and communications office, using my journalism skills to help the borough communicate with and reassure the community it serves. It’s made me realise I want to become a press officer for a living.

Roger, Hillingdon Borough

I volunteer on a police station front counter. I am here to provide a friendly, knowledgeable service to members of the public. It’s good to know I’m helping to save public money and manpower which can be more efficiently used elsewhere. As a retired person, I feel I’m doing something useful for my community and I also get to meet like-minded people who wish to contribute.
